Robin is the chairperson of Community Informatics. He is a public health medicine specialist in the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, and supports the Health Systems - Digital Information cluster at the National Department of Health. He qualified as a medical doctor at Stellenbosch University in 2006 and has since continued with post-graduate studies in Epidemiology and Community Health. He is also a senior lecturer in the Division of Health Systems and Public Health at Stellenbosch University.
While supporting the development of electronic medical record systems for the province, Robin completed a PhD in Public Health by applying Design Science Research methods to the emerging practice of User Experience Design in Data Visualisation. His other interests include health policy analysis, geographic information systems, artificial intelligence, cryptography for health, health terminological systems, interventions to support continuity of care, and health professions education.
Petro is the treasurer of Community Informatics and a seasoned health professional with extensive experience across the public and private health sectors, as well as non‑governmental and donor‑funded organisations. Her work focuses on strengthening health systems through strategic leadership, risk management and the development of innovative, cost‑effective operational solutions. She has led and supported programmes in HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care and treatment; primary health care; maternal, child and women’s health; workplace wellness; and services for vulnerable populations.
Petro has strong expertise in programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, capacity development and multi‑sectoral coordination. Her academic background complements her practical experience in business development, financial management and people leadership, enabling sustainable programme delivery at multiple levels. She is known for thriving in complex, changing environments and for driving proactive change management through a balanced, collaborative leadership approach.
Kevin fulfills the role of secretary for Community Informatics and a technology leader with more than 26 years of experience across the information and communications technology sectors in South Africa and the United Kingdom. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Leadership, a Master’s degree in Science, and a diploma in Healthcare Informatics. Kevin is a director and founder of several companies delivering strategic technology solutions focused on cloud modernisation, artificial intelligence, DevOps, blockchain and other emerging technologies.
He has led global teams delivering customer‑centred and large‑scale solutions within the financial technology, healthcare and telecommunications sectors. His work includes contributions to major national and international initiatives such as the South African COVID‑19 Data Centre, the Electronic Vaccine Data System, the Electronic Vaccination Certificate System, and the United Kingdom’s electric vehicle blockchain charging platform. Kevin continues to collaborate with leading global technology partners to enable innovation and digital transformation for enterprise and public‑sector clients.
Community Informatics is established as a voluntary association and is registered with the Department of Social Development, registration number 333-256-NPO
The organization is authorized to pursue several key public benefit objects:
Capacity Building in Government: Providing training and support for government employees in the use of community informatics tools to improve data-driven decision-making.
Community Education & Leadership: Designing programs to build skills for community leaders and civil society in information access and participatory governance.
Collaborative Platforms: Promoting knowledge-sharing networks that link government and communities to co-create locally relevant data dashboards and visualizations.
Community Informatics is managed by a Management Committee that is directly accountable to its members.
Leadership Structure: The committee consists of at least three office bearers, including a Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Fiduciary Responsibility: At least three natural persons who are not connected to one another accept fiduciary responsibility for the organization, ensuring that no single person controls the decision-making powers.
Financial Integrity: All funds and property are applied solely toward the organization's public benefit objects, with strict prohibitions against distributing income to members or office bearers except as reasonable remuneration for services rendered.
The organization was formally established in January 2026 by its founding members: Robin Dyers, Petro Rousseau, and Kevin Naicker.
